We have been so busy I am a little lost as to what to post. Chris has had a few weeks free in between jobs and so we decided to throw ourselves into the project before work kicked off again for the pair of us. We also had some help last week as two workawayers joined us, Tess and Andrew from Leeds. They have been cycling through France and stopped with us for a week. They have been lots of help, especially as I came down with a horrible case of gastro and couldn’t move or hold anything down for four days!!
So what have we done. Well let’s take it room by room. Firstly the workshop, it now has natural light for the first time ever. The side door has been replaced by a window and we now have beautiful bifold doors at the front. Which I painted yesterday to match the rest of the house. So Chris no longer feels like a mole in his hole!!!
Upstairs, in the living room we now have an echelle de meunier instead of a ladder leading to the mezzanine office space. In our bedroom-to-be we have poured the top coat of screed so the floor is now ready for the chestnut to be laid. I have painted the windows, twice! The colour was wrong to begin with. The doors have been made, painted and hung. In our bathroom-to-be we have lime washed the walls and ceiling, I don’t recommend lime washing ceilings it is very, very , messy!
In the hallway the front door is being made as I type. And most importantly Vincent, Will and Matthieu are here right now and plastering! We received a call on Tuesday from Vincent saying that they were free on Thursday to come and plaster. So when Vincent calls, we jump!! Never say no to Vincent, he is worth his weight in gold! They plaster very thick and slowly but it looks fantastic afterwards, really solid. We are not sure how much more they will get done today. It is a bit of a race against time, the hallway is pretty huge with very tall walls. But they should get the majority done. Already it looks amazing. A far cry from what we did with Mark!!
However we only have tonight to clean up and pack as we are off to join Chris’ family on their annual holidays!! Nothing like a bit of pressure! Here are some photos, more to follow later…
